Resolved

On 29th March, additional interconnect capacity came online between Telstra and other wholesale providers. Call volumes and interconnect capacity issues now appear to be resolved. Thank you for your patience while the Australian Telecoms networks wobbled under the transition to remote working driven by COVID-19.

Recovering

We know the critical importance of being available for your customers now more than ever.

A range of capacity upgrades will take place overnight tonight that will alleviate some of the congestion we have seen on carrier networks today that prevented your customers from reaching you and we expect to see a vast improvement in connectivity from all networks other than Telstra throughout the course of tomorrow. We have seen significant increases in call volumes through the latter part of today that are reaching our networks and being connected to your businesses.

We appreciate the impact this is having on your operations and will keep you updated as we are provided more information from the Tier 1 Carrier Interconnect capacity upgrades that are scheduled.

Capacity related issues from Concierge Networks to all Tier 1 carriers apart from Telstra have been resolved. Isolated issues are still being reported within each of the Tier 1 carrier networks meaning you may still experience issues calling to or from other numbers in areas where congestion has been alleviated.

We have the following updates for the Telstra capacity upgrades currently in progress:

Telstra, Melbourne

  • Telstra Exchange, Windsor: Pre-patch complete, awaiting Telstra to provision the capacity. These works are being expedited. No further update on this.
  • Telstra Exchange, Lonsdale: Pre-patch works were brought forward and were completed over the weekend. The carrier is now working with Telstra to have the approval processes expedited.

Telstra, Sydney

  • There was a planned upgrade initially scheduled to take place later in the year. The initial design work is being completed before contractors can be engaged to commence pre-patching. No ETA available for completion.

Telstra, Tasmania

  • Additional capacity for a further 250 channels is now active in Launceston. Some congestion may still occur, as works are continuing for a further 520 channels to be completed by COB tomorrow (25/3).

Telstra, Adelaide

  • The carrier is working closely with Telstra to add additional capacity. Tie Cables are ready, pending further works.

We're aware of a widespread issue affecting inbound calling services to a range of telecommunications providers across Australia. There is currently congestion between carriers on the Tier 1 telecommunications backbone network in Australia.

The Tier 1 carriers are working to resolve the congestion through capacity upgrades however we expect inbound calling issues to continue until additional capacity has been added. We do not have an ETA for resolution at this time.
